I have a financial Interest in Poolbeg Pharma.

One could argue my timing was less than ideal. Including the market spread, I am already sitting on a paper loss of around 20%. That is never comfortable. Yet my investment case was never built around the next few trading sessions. It was built around the clinical and commercial catalysts still to come. Viewed through that lens, I regard today’s fundraising as a sensible, if inevitably dilutive, decision. I’ll explain why.

Poolbeg Pharma has raised Β£3.5m through the placing of 58.3m new ordinary shares at 6p, representing a 16% discount to the previous closing price. Executive Chair Cathal Friel also participated, investing Β£250k alongside shareholders.

Friel's participation is encouraging, although it is worth noting that he has a long track record of backing fundraisings across the companies he helps build. As such, investors may view this as consistent with his established approach rather than a standalone signal of exceptional conviction. A larger personal investment from Chief Executive Jeremy Skillington would arguably have carried greater weight, given his responsibility for executing the company's clinical and commercial strategy. However, no such investment was disclosed as part of this placing.
